This past weekend we saw the year’s second major in the PGA Championship take place at the historic Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, New York. A strong field once again was the main story coming in along with the LIV vs PGA rivalry meeting for the second time. Watching the rivalry did not disappoint, heading into Sunday we had a LIV player (Brooks Koepka) vs a PGA player (Victor Hovland) as the final pairing. Brooks Koepka finished as the winner at 9 under with Hovland trailing by 2 at 7 under par tied with Scottie Scheffler for 2nd. Koepka was able to grab his fifth major and his third PGA Championship win. He has cemented himself as one of the best golfers of our generation and has put to bed many narratives about him. Many of the big names this week did not have the week they were hoping for. Players such as Matt Fitzpatrick, Jason Day, Rickie Fowler, and Brendan Steele are some of the notable names to miss the cut, with players like Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas barely making the cut and finishing poorly. Possibly the biggest story of the week comes from the club pro from California: Michael Block. Block was one of the 20 club pros who were given an exemption to qualify and compete in the tournament. Block made the cut and ultimately finished tied for the 15th spot overall while gaining a spot in next year’s PGA championship. On top of this Cinderella story, Block was able to dunk a hole-in-one on a long par 3. Block was also invited to the Charles Schwab Challenge next week.
